Minaj's penchant for plasticy pink wigs and bright lipstick makes her a perfect contender to be turned into a doll, and now Mattel has teamed up to offer a one-of-a-kind Nicki Minaj Barbie doll to a very lucky (and very generous) bidder.
Billboard reports that the doll will be available at Divine Design's five-day event and gala at the L.A. Beverly Hilton. Bids, starting at $1000, will be received through Dec. 19. If it seems a hefty price to pay for a Barbie, keep in mind that it's for a good cause. Proceeds go to Project Angel Food, which provides food for men, woman and children affected by HIV and AIDS.
"Barbie is obviously a pop culture icon. She's been in the spotlight for over 50 years, and strikes that chord with girls of all ages in terms of being representative of the times. And Nicki is a big part of pop culture and also huge within the fashion industry, as well as a big Barbie fan," says a Barbie spokeswoman. "It's really exciting for us that she's been so generous to allow us to create this one-of-a-kind doll to support such an important cause."
Since Minaj is such a big Barbie fan, it's possible that she'll continue her partnership with Mattel into 2012 for other ventures, as she's obviously a big hit with the kids -- we've all seen the Sophia Grace videos.
The question is -- is Nicki Minaj, who certainly raps about adult concepts -- a good fit for Mattel, a toy company? Would you buy a Nicki Minaj doll for your child (if she were priced lower than $1000)
